Photoshop really is an amazing tool. I'm still learning how to use it, and this edit is nowhere near perfect. Straight lines are tricky. But this is pretty good! Don't look too hard, the mistakes are easy to spot when blown up.
In this case, since I am not reporting on anything, and the exposure opportunity was so slight (80mph down the freeway, train coming 55mph the other direction, zoomed out to 300mm, shooting through car windshield without a polarizer, shooting in manual mode) I don't feel too bad about it.
In general I try not to change more than 5-8% of the image though because, as you said, it feels unethical.
as a photojournalist i will say this is highly unethical as me I will say whats the point in making the image if you're not happy with whats in it?
